A good animation explaining the interactions between the hormones controlling the ovarian & uterine cycles....
Ovarian/Uterine Cycle
This should help you for adding the interactions to your poster.... On your poster, be sure to show where the hormones are produced, where they act and during what days of the cycle.

Circulation Quiz Review
Review for Circulatory System Quiz:
Label this picture of the heart and add arrows showing the flow of blood.
Label this picture of the heart and add arrows showing the flow of blood.
Label the major blood vessels on this diagram:
Compare the following:
Pulmonary vs. systemic (blood vessels, function, oxygenated vs. deoxygenated)
Arteries vs. veins (structure)
List the structures (specific blood vessels, parts of the heart) that a blood cell would pass by within the circulatory system - moving from the carotid artery all the way back to the aorta. Include information about where and when the blood is oxygenated and deoxygenated.
Fetal circulation: Describe the 3 major modifications of the fetal circulatory system. What is the purpose of each?

Urinary System Video & Assignment
We have a circulatory system quiz (celebration of learning) on Wednesday - okay fine. Friday. Today we are starting to learn about the Urinary system - here is a good 6 minute intro video identifying the main structures and how the urinary system functions to excrete wastes and maintain water balance:
After watching this video - please find an interesting question that you have about the urinary system, excretion or the kidneys to blog about. Then, LEARN ABOUT IT! Post the question, the answer, at least one picture and/or video and links to the best websites that you used for your research (as live links using the link feature).
If you get this done before class is over, please follow someone else's blog & read their question and answer (ie. learn something else interesting) and write a comment for them.

Playland Blog Post
Write a blog post about our field trip to Playland that incorporates the following themes:
- Heart Rate: how does waiting in line for a ride affect your heart rate? Did you record your heart rate before and after (any evidence)? How about riding on the ride - what affect did it have on your heart rate?
- Why do you think your heart rate is affected?
- Breathing Rate: Was your breathing rate affected by the rides? Which ones?
- What other physiological effects (on your body) did you experience? Can you explain any of them?
- Post any pictures or evidence of your experience at Playland.

Heart Dissection
For your observations, you will need to post some pictures - use the iPads to label the following external anatomy. Use as many pictures as you need to show the following structures clearly:
- Left ventricle
- Right ventricle
- Left atrium
- Right atrium
- Apex (the bottom point of the heart)
- Aorta
- Superior &/or Inferior vena cava
- Pulmonary veins
- Pulmonary trunk &/or arteries
- Coronary Blood Vessels (on the surface of the heart)
Internal Anatomy:
Once you have made the cuts into the ventricles of the heart locate, takes pictures of and label the following structures from the inside:
- Left & Right Atria and Ventricles
- Septum
- Right & Left AV valves
- Pulmonary semi lunar valve
- Aortic semi lunar valve
- Chordae Tendinae
Answer the following questions about the structures and functions of the heart & post to your blog:
- Compare the structure of the atria and ventricles - how are they different? Why is that?
- Did you notice a difference between the veins and arteries entering and leaving the heart? How is their structure different?
- Describe the valves that you found in the heart - what are their functions?
- What surprised you about dissecting the heart? Why?

Biology 12 - Circulatory System Research
The heart dissection will be delayed until tomorrow.... Sorry....
Today's class:
I have seen a few of the heart videos from yesterday posted to your blogs, and they looked great. If you have not posted your video, work on that first - it needs to be uploaded to your YouTube account from the camera roll and then embedded into your blog. Try to do it using the movie icon at the top of the screen when you are embedding rather than copy and pasting the link as text.
Using computers or iPads, come up with a specific, interesting question relating to the heart &/or circulatory system and/or lymphatic system. In a similar way to your respiration question, post the answer on your blog along with the best links, pictures, animations and videos that helped you learn about it.
Everyone should have their own question & answer posted on their blog today.
Make sure your colouring sheet (front and back) are answered in preparation for your dissection tomorrow.
Have a good class and LEARN SOMETHING interesting:)
