Respiration

Today we are learning about respiration - the mechanics of breathing in and out...  We will be making model lungs.

I would like you to make the lung (with a partner) and then take a picture of it with the iPad and post it to your blog.  Use the skitch app to label the following parts:

• trachea
• bronchi
• alveoli
• diaphragm

Then explain how inspiration and expiration work.  What causes the lung to inflate with air?  Why do they deflate?  What part of the process requires a "muscle contraction" of the diaphragm?
